Comic Book Birthday (1933)-- The first modern comic book was Famous Funnies, released in the US in 1933. It was a reprinting of earlier newspaper humor comic strips. The term comic book comes from American comic books once being a compilation of comic strips. Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster introducted Superman in 1938, turning comic books into a major industry, and so began the Golden Age of Comics. Source

- Sliced bread is a loaf of bread which has been pre-sliced and packaged for convenience. It was first sold in 1928, advertised as "the greatest forward step in the baking industry since bread was wrapped". This led to the popular phrase, "the greatest thing since sliced bread".
