James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London, barely making enough money to feed himself, and the last thing he needed was a pet. World Food Day
- a worldwide event designed to increase awareness, understanding and informed, year-around action to alleviate hunger.

National Learn a Word Day
- The magic of words - explore the world of words, share, and delight in the joy of words. Learn one new word every day!

Let Them Eat Cake Day
- In popular culture, the phrase "Let them eat cake" is often attributed to Marie Antoinette. Nine months after her husband's execution, she was tried, convicted of treason, and executed by guillotine on 16 October 1793.

Dictionary Day
- named in honor of the birthday of that famous American wordsmith, Noah Webster. To recognize this special day, look up words using dictionaries!

National Boss Day

Steve Jobs Day
- October 16th was declared Steve Jobs day by Governor Jerry Brown on Twitter shortly after Apple's co-founder and former CEO passed following a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Today is a perfect opportunity to reflect upon Steve Jobs’s legacy.

International Adjust your Chair Day
- When we sit in our computer chairs, we often sit in ways that strain our backs or cause long term problems. Today is a good day to adjust your chair if it is adjustable — to improve these problems. It is particularly important for those of us who spend long hours at our computers, sitting in an office chair.

National Clean Your Virtual Desktop Day
- to raise awareness of cluttered computer desktops worldwide. With over one billion computers in use worldwide, and assuming that each computer has an average of 10 unused icons per desktop - the total wasted screen display space is estimated to be 169 acres or 69 hectares.

Pro-Life Day of the Silent Majority
- Over 4,000 children have their lives taken each day in the name of choice. People from all over this nation will give up their voices for a day in solidarity for these children. Red arm bands and duct tape will identify them as taking part in the Pro-life Day of Silent Solidarity. They will carry fliers explaining why they are silent and educate others about the plight of the innocent children we are losing every day.
