X-ray Discovery Day (1895)
-- German physicist Wilhelm Roentgen was conducting experiments with a Crookes tube – basically, a glass gas bulb giving off a fluorescent light when a high-voltage current is passed through it – when he noticed the beam turned a screen 9 feet away from a greenish fluorescent color, despite the tube being shielded by heavy black cardboard. Roentgen concluded, correctly, that he was dealing with a new kind of ray, one casting the shadow of a solid object when passed through an opaque covering from its point of origin. Not knowing what kind of ray he was dealing with, exactly, led him to call it an X-ray. The name stuck.
Read: X-ray: See Through the World Around You
-- We think of an X-ray as a diagnostic or security tool—but it's much more. As award-winning photographer Nick Veasey shows in this eye-opening collection, X-rays reveal worlds hidden beneath the surface. Veasey, often in collaboration with scientists and medical personnel, uses a variety of specialized equipment to create stunningly ethereal images of everything from tulips to tractors. They'll alter the way you perceive even the most everyday object.
True To Life Human X-rays
-- Hold these life-size human X-rays up to the light or use them on a light table and see every authentic detail of a real skeleton. Arrange the 18 pieces together to reproduce the entire body of a young adult. The teacher guide includes reproducible artwork and information on radiography.
Pretend Doctor Kit with X-ray Machine
-- Set contains a syringe, oral mirror, thermometer, and X-ray film. The upgraded stethoscope can produce a real beating effect. The syringe simulates a real injection scenario. Use your child's rich imagination and creativity to experience the fun of being a doctor. Kids can use wheeled medical vehicles to do "physical examinations" for family or friends, bringing a more authentic experience.
Glowing X-ray Assortment Stickers
