Over the years, as I became friends with many of these veterans, they began to open up and share with me. Many veterans refused to talk for years but reached out to me as they become older as they wanted their stories remembered. Even their spouses and children had never heard many of these shared stories. This book is also unique as it includes chapters from American veterans of many races, all of whom have served their country with great pride. We must not forget all of these men's and women's stories, lest we forget the cost they gave for our freedom.

Veterans and active-duty military get a free meal from a select menu on November 11 with seven farm-fresh breakfast, lunch and dinner dishes to choose from. This year’s offering is a continuation of the company’s support of current and former members of the military and a way to pay homage to the life and legacy of founder, Bob Evans, a military veteran himself, who always appreciated and recognized the importance of a homecooked meal.
From restaurant open until close—3-9pm local time—on Veterans Day, Thursday, November 11, Black Angus Steakhouses will offer veterans the All-American Steak Plate for just $11.99 (regularly priced around $23.99). Available for restaurant dining and takeaway orders, participating guests can expect an 8 oz. Certified Angus Beef Top Sirloin, home-style mashed potatoes, broccoli with garlic butter and a non-alcoholic beverage. All military personnel who produce a valid military ID or proof of military service are eligible to receive this special offer. Takeaway orders can be made by calling the restaurant directly.

To redeem, they just had to present a military ID or valid proof of service. National Park Service
Texas State Parks will waive day-use entry fees for everyone on Sunday, Nov. 11. In addition, current military members and dependents, Coast Guard, Reserve and National Guard members can get a free annual park pass by showing a Common Access Card or Military ID.
