Nicole has a great post on how to get $25 Restaurant.com Gift Cards for free. So I thought I would give it a try.

First she says to sign up to Ebates.com and you will get $5.00 just for signing up. OK, I signed up, took about 2 seconds, and now my account shows I earned $5.00. That was easy!

Once signed up and logged in, she suggests typing in "restaurant.com" in the search bar on the upper left, where it says "stores and products". I typed it in and am ready to hit the "Search" button.

She says, "The deal you want is the second one listed - for 80% off a $25 gift certificate." I thought at first I didn't have that on my page when I looked under "Stores with names that contain the term: restaurant.com", but then I scrolled down a bit - and there it was under "Coupons related to: restaurant.com".

It reads: 80% off any order - $25 Gift Certificates for only $2 at Restaurant.com! Code NAPKIN (Exp. 07/28/2009) Plus 15% Cash Back! It expires in a few days - so don't delay!

When you click on the "Shop Now" button, the restaurant.com site will open up through Ebates.com. This way it will track your purchase and give you the credit. You get 15% cash back in your Ebates.com account as well as the $5 you just earned by signing up!

Now my problem is that I'm in Canada, and we rarely go to the States to eat - but the Gift Cards are only for US restaurants. So that makes it hard for me to choose!? However they have some great restaurants to choose from - and this would make a fabulous gift!

So I finally decided to choose a $25 Gift Card to The Red Coach Inn in Niagara Falls, NY - and clicked on the "Add to Cart" button. When it took me to the Shopping Cart, my total was $12.50. I added in my discount code "NAPKIN" and the total was recalulated to $2.50.

Unfortunately for me, when I clicked on the "Proceed to Checkout" button - it only accepts US addresses. I even thought of sending it to my inlaws winter home in Florida, but the credit card you use has to match the address you ship to - so, as a Canadian, I am out-of-luck!

I even checked Restaurant.ca - to see if there was something similar in Canada - but it only suggests places to eat - no gift cards.

But if you are in the US, and new to Ebates.com, remember you'll get 15% cash back on your purchase, making the $2.50 sale now $2.13.

So with the $5.00 you earned for just signing up, you actually MADE $2.87, plus got a free $25 giftcard for a great dinner in a participating restaurant!
Oh, at least Ebates.com is good for anyone shopping online - they offer online rebates and coupons at over 1,000 stores!
