National Chocolate Chip Day (1937) -- In 1937, Ruth Graves Wakefield of Whitman, Massachusetts, thought of adding a little chocolate to her cookies. As a baker at the Toll House Inn, she added cut-up chunks of semi-sweet Nestle chocolate bar to her cookie recipe. The resulting cookies were a huge success! In 1939, Wakefield signed an agreement with Nestle to include her recipe on the chocolate bar's packaging.

- Few things in life can compare to the taste of warm, soft, melt-in-your-mouth chocolate chip cookies. Just the thought gives many of us visions of when we would come home from school, and mom would take a fresh batch of cookies out of the oven. Can you remember how you couldn't wait for them to cool before eating that first one?
