The Joy of Cooking Published
- America’s favorite all-purpose cookbook was self-published on this date by Irma Rombauer (1877–1962). Rombauer was a comforting voice for cooks during the Depression, and the book grew into an institution. The first commercial edition of the book appeared in 1936, and it offered a revolutionary “action format” (chronologically ordered ingredients followed by instructions) now commonplace in cookbooks. The numerous editions over-seen by Rombauer and later her daughter and grandson sold more than 14 million copies.

St. Andrew's Day
- the feast of Saint Andrew, celebrated on 30 November each year. Saint Andrew is the patron saint of Scotland and St. Andrew's Day is Scotland's official national day, although Burns' Night is more widely observed. In 2006, the Scottish Parliament designated the Day as an official bank holiday.

Day of Friendship
- This is a greeting card holiday since the greeting card companies are the only ones to announce this holiday. There are other officially marked Day of Friendship holidays around the world however none are marked for today.

National Meth Awareness Day
- Methamphetamine abuse is on the rise so it only befitting that a day be set aside to raise the awareness of this terrible drug that is being produced all around the nation. Methamphetamine is an addictive stimulant that is closely related to amphetamine, but has longer lasting and more toxic effects on the central nervous system. It has a high potential for abuse and addiction.

Throw Out the Leftovers Day
- The American Thanksgiving was a couple of days ago and it only takes a few days for leftover food to go bad and make you feel ill or give you stomach problems. The thing is, bacteria can grow in any food that needs refrigerating when left at room temperature for longer than two hours. So the idea is after a couple of days of heating and cooling and heating and cooling your left over, it's best to throw them out on this day.

- At request of the Assembly in 1977, observance is organized by secretary-general in consultation with Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. Newspaper Day
- By 2007 there were 6580 daily newspapers in the world selling 395 million copies a day. The worldwide recession of 2008, combined with the rapid growth of web-based alternatives, caused a serious decline in advertising and circulation, as many papers closed or sharply retrenched operations.

King Tut's Tomb Opened
- Though several of the foremost excavators over the past century had declared there was nothing left to find in the Valley of the Kings, Howard Carter and his sponsor, Lord Carnarvon, spent a number of years and a lot of money searching for a tomb they weren't sure existed. In November 1922, they found it. Carter had discovered not just an unknown ancient Egyptian tomb, but one that had lain nearly undisturbed for over 3,000 years. What lay within astounded the world.

Czechoslovakia Ends Communist Rule
- Czechoslovakia ended 41 years of one-party Communist rule in 1989, when the Czechoslovak parliament voted unanimously to repeal the constitutional clauses giving the Communist Party a guaranteed leading role in the country and promoting Marxism-Leninism as the state ideology.

First Army-Navy Game
- Army played Navy for the first time in football in 1890, and Navy won, 24–0. Red Emrich scored four touchdowns (worth four points each) and kicked two field goals (worth two points each), and Moulton Johnson added the other touchdown to account for all the scoring.

"Kukla, Fran and Ollie" TV Premiere
- This popular children’s show featured puppets created and handled by Burr Tillstrom and was equally popular with adults. Fran Allison was the only human on the show. Tillstrom’s lively and eclectic cast of characters, called the “Kuklapolitans,” included the bald, high-voiced Kukla, the big-toothed Oliver J. Dragon (Ollie), Fletcher Rabbit, Cecil Bill, Buelah the Witch, Colonel Crackie, Madame Ooglepuss and Dolores Dragon.

Pins and Needles Day
- This a holiday founded in 1937 to commemorate the opening of a play named Pins and Needles by a man named Harold Rome. It was a pro-labor play with the cast and crew from the International Ladies Garment Workers Union. (That's where the pins and needles most likely came into play) The play played on weekends only so the women could keep their day jobs.

Pie in the Face Day

- The hamlet of Shottery was only a mile from the town of Stratford where William Shakespeare lived with his family. A considerable age difference, with William Shakespeare still under the age of consent (21). It is apparent that Anne Hathaway became pregnant prior to marriage which would have no doubt caused a scandal for both of the families.

First Face Transplant
- In a five-hour operation in 2005, French surgeons transplanted the skin, muscles, veins, arteries, nerves and tissues of a brain-dead patient onto the face of a woman who had lost her nose and the bottom part of her face after a dog attack. Doctors said the partial transplant, the first of its kind, created a “hybrid” face—resembling neither the dead donor nor the original face of the recipient.

Bruce Lee's Birthday
- The actor and martial artist was born at San Francisco, CA in 1940, but raised in Hong Kong. In 1959 he returned to the US to teach martial arts, opening schools in Seattle, WA, and Oakland, CA.

Charles Schulz's Birthday
- Cartoonist, born in 1922 in Minneapolis, MN. Created the “Peanuts” comic strip, which debuted on Oct 2, 1950. The strip included Charlie Brown; his sister, Sally; his dog, Snoopy; friends Linus and Lucy; and a variety of other characters. Schulz’s last daily strip was published Jan 3, 2000, and his last Sunday strip was published Feb 13, 2000.
