Free Reading Calendar Book
Freebie 101 - Getting Started with Freebies Hunting
- freebie found by Catherine of frugal-freebies.com -
The idea is for reluctant readers to encourage them to read by breaking it down into daily bits. The book has been serialized, and the story appears on a daily calendar.
The intention is for teachers and homeschoolers to print the calendar pages, cut them into four calendar days, and post them on the bulletin board or display them with an overhead device. It is hoped that by reading small segments of meaningful text each day, reluctant readers will enjoy the sense of accomplishment that comes with finishing a book and will be more willing to read on their own.
This semester’s Reading Calendar book is ‘The Creature in the Forest’, a mystery story about a tall lumbering creature that is spotted at night near a campground. (The creature turns out to be a person who is merely trying to scare people away.) The book is part of the Scoop Doogan Mystery Series, by High Noon Books. This series features Scoop, who is a star reporter for the Big Bend Times, and his intern Jake Malone. The interest level is upper elementary through high school, and the readability level is approximately second grade.
Previous calendars have been archived on TheReadingCalendar.com, and have been updated to reflect the current school semester. All calendars have a start date of September 14, 2009, so you can choose the most appealing story for your reluctant reader!
